- You can filter songs by genre in Solfeg.io
Lesson starter: Using a projector, open the Solfeg.io song library. On the left side is a list of musical genres within Solfeg.io. Ask the students to put a mark next to their favorite genre. After all students have chosen compare and discuss how music is subjective and we all enjoy music differently.
15 mins: Choose 3 songs from different genres. Listen to them one at a time and discuss the characteristics of the different styles. What makes each one unique?
Lesson plan: Divide the class into three groups and assign each group a specific genre. Each group should research their genre and find specific points that make the genre unique. Have them research things like types of instruments, lyric content, where it comes from and what makes each one unique. At the end of the lesson each group can present their findings to the class.
